Belly button piercing (lateral)

The side navel piercing is considered a more specialized form of belly button piercing and is a real eye-catcher. It is inserted - usually on both sides - into the lateral skin fold of the belly button.

Decorating the belly button has a rich history. In the past, the belly button was richly decorated in many cultures, but with paintings rather than piercings.

A pierced navel, on the other hand, was not captured in a photograph until relatively late in the 1970s. Later in the 1980s, the Gauntlet Piercing Magazine PFIQ (Piercing Fan International Quarterly) dedicated a series to navel piercings for the first time and thus officially introduced them to the specialist public.

Belly button piercings gained popularity somewhat later when they were seen on various models and pop stars, such as in the music video (Cryin') by the rock band Aerosmith.
