The helix piercing is one of the absolute classics of ear piercings and is very popular. It belongs to the family of cartilage piercings and is placed on the upper, outer edge of the pinna (the helix).
The helix piercing looks back on a past rich in tradition. They have always been worn by the Maasai, a tribe in Kenya and Tanzania, as well as the Dayak, the indigenous people on the island of Borneo.
Piercing details
Piercing type | Ear piercing |
---|---|
Healing time | approx. 3 - 6 months |
Please note | Helix piercings are only pierced with a needle and not with an ear piercing gun. A piercing needle (hollow needle) should generally take precedence over an ear piercing gun, as the cartilage tissue would be literally shattered by using one. As the helix region offers a relatively large amount of space, this area is particularly suitable for combining several piercings. With a fresh helix piercing, we recommend sleeping for a few nights so that no pressure is exerted on the piercing. Cartilage piercings, such as the helix, take a little longer to heal than other piercings. |
