Piercing FAQ
What is ear stretching?
Whether tunnels, plugs, tubes or spirals - ear jewelry for oversized holes has many names and even more different shapes.
Tunnels and plugs, also known as stretched or widened piercings, have been worn in the earlobes since time immemorial. To date, the oldest person known to have had stretched earlobes was the glacier mummy Ötzi - who is said to have lived as far back as 3350 BC. Buddha and the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun are also always depicted with hanging earlobes. So we are not the first to follow this trend.
To stretch an ear hole - also known as stretching - all you need is a fully healed, regularly pierced earlobe.
However, you should be patient, as stretching takes time to prevent larger tears. This would increase the risk of infection and the stretched ear hole could scar unsightly.
With professional ear stretching, the so-called microcracks are evenly distributed in the ear hole and the healing process is quick and uncomplicated.
Stretching rods or spirals are usually used for stretching. If you do not yet have a regularly pierced earlobe and would like ear plugs, you can start directly with a 1.6 millimeter piercing. Based on our experience, we recommend a maximum stretching of 2 millimeters per stretching step. It is important that the tissue on the earlobe can regenerate again and again so that it does not tear during the next stretching.
The inserted jewelry must not be removed, as the stretched ear would regress within a few hours.
As a general rule, if an ear hole is no larger than 8-10 millimeters in diameter, it can grow back on its own.
