Piercing FAQ
What are the advantages & disadvantages of surgical steel (316L)?
In medicine, stainless surgical steel (316L) is used in many different applications. For example, for bone fixation screws, body pins, bone plates, full-length prostheses, bone nails, wires, mandibular mesh prostheses, sutures, staples, neurosurgical and microvascular (clips), and as pacemaker electrodes.
316L and 316LVM are ideal for secondary use (after epithelialization [complete healing of the canal]). This does not apply for use as primary - i.e. first-use - jewelry.
