Piercing FAQ

How do I care for my piercing properly?

Proper care is very important for your freshly pierced piercing, as incorrect or negligent treatment can lead to poor healing.

With the exception of intimate and oral piercings, care is more or less the same: you should first wash your hands thoroughly, as always, before touching the ring or plug. Despite thorough cleaning, you should still only touch the ring or plug by the balls. There are various ways to remove the crust that may have formed on the jewelry:

  • Soak with water in the shower
  • Spray with a suitable wound disinfectant (2nd Skin care product) and carefully loosen with your fingers, preferably with a lint-free cleaning cloth (a paper towel is also suitable; cotton buds are only suitable to a limited extent, they lint very easily and the long absorbent cotton lint in particular sticks stubbornly to the piercing)

Next, apply some of the wound disinfectant to both sides of the pierced area and turn the ring or plug back and forth 4 to 5 times so that the wound disinfectant reaches the puncture canal and can take effect there. Remains of the product can be removed with a clean paper towel. This should be repeated in the morning and evening or if the wound is contaminated. In any case, we recommend using a suitable wound healing agent and not any ointments or creams (which usually block the sting canal). Above all, you should not use several products at the same time. The 2nd Skin care product is ideal for piercings of all kinds because it is easy to use and does not sting at all.

The healed piercing should also always be cleaned when showering, i.e. turned back and forth and rinsed thoroughly when washing, as sweat and sebum accumulate in the piercing canal. Even a completely healed piercing must be worn (almost) constantly, as the stitch canal (depending on the pierced area) can close up within hours to such an extent that it is no longer possible to reinsert it without re-piercing.

If you have an inflammation, you should never simply remove the jewelry itself, as the inflammation could become encapsulated (without jewelry, the piercing hole closes and encloses the inflammation), which would only make things worse. Some tips for navel piercing

Under no circumstances should you wear belts with large buckles, as this will only irritate your piercing unnecessarily and could, in the worst case, be torn out. You should also avoid tight pants, chafing clothing and clothing that could catch your piercing (e.g. lace or clothing with coarse stitches). Do not wear loose clothing for the first few weeks, unless you cover your piercing with a plaster to prevent dirt from getting on the piercing. However, the plaster should be changed frequently (approx. every 2-3 hours).

Some tips for tongue piercing

Tongue piercings are best cared for with a mouthwash or the 2nd Skin care product (please do not ingest, just rinse well). However, you should not overdo the care with mouthwash, as this destroys the oral flora. You should rinse a lot with cold mineral water. You should observe the following after piercing within the next 48 hours:

  • Do not smoke again immediately
  • Cooling, for example by sucking ice cubes (be careful not to get hypothermia) or even better by rinsing with cold mineral water to counteract the swelling of the tongue, which you can still expect for a few days.
  • Thoroughly rinse your mouth with water after every meal.
  • Do not eat or drink anything hot or spicy.
  • It is best to drink plenty of mineral water or cold chamomile tea.

If everything has healed well, you should not play too much with your teeth on the metal jewelry - this could lead to tooth damage. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
