Piercing FAQ
Can gold be used as initial jewelry for piercings?
Yes, real gold can be used as piercing jewelry for initial use. However, there are some important considerations to bear in mind. First insertion jewelry needs to be about 2mm longer to allow for possible swelling of the pierced area. This extra length prevents pressure and discomfort during the healing phase and allows for better care of the new piercing.
The price of gold is very high these days and even the extra 2 mm length required for initial jewelry can increase the price. In addition, the longer jewelry is often no longer ideal after healing, as it is then too long. It therefore makes more sense to switch to gold jewelry after healing, when the final and shorter length of jewelry can be used. This saves costs and also makes the jewelry more comfortable to wear.
